PATIENT STORIES
“We spent all these years thinking it was psychiatric…never realizing there could be a medical component to this.”
Julie’s Story
At 5 years old he was diagnosed with ADHD, a mood disorder, compulsive behaviors and thoughts, and oppositional disorder. He was prescribed approximately 15 different psychiatric meds over the years.
Julie:
So when he was probably about 5-years-old, he started having a lot of anxiety. He had a lot of compulsive disorders. He couldn't leave the house unless all the doors were shut. He was very afraid, he thought the house was going to burn down and he wasn't going to be able to get out in time.
And then he also had some raging. He would cry a lot. He would go into school and he would have, not aggressive behavior but more raging behavior.
At 5 years old he was diagnosed with ADHD, a mood disorder, compulsive behaviors and thoughts, oppositional disorder.
We've really been seeing doctors since he's been 5-years-old, trying to understand. But of course, he was just put on psychiatric meds.
We tried all sorts of different meds. We probably were on 15 different psychiatric meds over the years. And now he's 13. Finally, we had a doctor that recommended to us to do the Cunningham Panel™ just this past May and he's 13 years old now.
So we spent all these years thinking that it was psychiatric and trying to treat that way without really realizing that there could be a medical component to this.
